Ear Mites |
| |
Ear mites grow and multiply in
the ear canal of rabbits. A brown and crusty material
can form and if it gets bad enough can fill the
ear canal of the rabbit. This buildup usually
does not take long to form because the ear mites
can multiply very fast. This causes the skin underneath
the buildup to become extermely irritated.
A couple of different medications are available
for rabbits with ear mites. Ear drops are generally
the first choice for medication as they are the
easiest to apply and generally receive good results.
As a last resort injectable medications may be
used however they can be hard to administer without
a veterinarian but also generally receive good
results. Injections will be necessary if the ear
mite infestation has progressed to an advanced
stage. For this reason you should have your rabbit
looked after as soon as possible if you suspect
it may have ear mites.
