Hairballs |
| |
Cats are not the only animals
that can form hairballs in their stomachs. Just
like cats when rabbits groom themselves they accidentally
digest hair which over time clumps together to
form a solid mass.
Since rabbits cannot vomit hairballs can be especially
dangerous to them. If not cared for the hairballs
will continue to grow to the point that they can
fill the rabbits stomach. For this reason many
times the first sign of hairballs in your rabbit
is a lack of appetite.
Pineapple juice works well to help disolve the
hairball in the rabbits stomach. The enzymes in
the pineapple juice help to break down the hairball
over time. If this fails surgery is probably necessary
which makes it vital to consult with your veterinarian
if the problem persists.
