Like many other hares the female
scrub hares are noticably larger than their female
counterparts. The back of a Scrub Hare is dark
brown in color while its belly is white.
When confronted with a predator most rabbits
and hares stay completely still in hopes of avoiding
sight. The Scrub Hare is no different in this
sense except that it waits as long as it possibly
can to make a move. It will then dart away and
attempt to outrun its predator. This characteristic
is generally not very effective and it is believed
that this is one of the reasons that Scrub Hares
rarely live to see their first birthday in the
wild. While kept in captivity they can usually
live to be between 5 and 7 years.
