The Volcano rabbit makes its home
in the mountains of Mexico. It likes to live in
areas of dense grass and pine forests. They never
live in groups of more than 4 other rabbits and
like most rabbits live in burrows that they dig
in the ground. Their paws have been adapted to
walk on the rocky surface of the mountains that
they live on. Due to habitat destruction in recent
years they have been pushed further and further
into the mountains causing a decline in their
numbers.
It is the smallest rabbit next to the Pygmy rabbit
weighing slightly more than half a kilogram. The
Volcano Rabbit makes its diet from grass and bark.
